Supporting Each Other
Gun violence often leads to the death of beloved family members and friends, co-workers, and neighbors. When someone you care about dies suddenly due to a shooting, survivors are left with the pain and sorrow of grief. Grieving is a healthy and natural healing process. It is not a sign of weakness. For most people, grieving follows a pattern, which proceeds through a series of stages. The best way to confront loss is to recognize it, understand the feelings and reactions you experience, and seek support during the grieving process. We work together to help each other. The best way to achieve this is:
- Discuss the different ways to identify the signs and symptoms.
- Focus on helping victims of gun violence cope with the trauma of losing their loved one.
- Provide a healthy discussion of recovery and address subjects such as PTSD, nutrition, and self-care.
